Five Minute Friday: Change

It’s Friday and I’m linking with the Five Minute Friday group over at Lisa Jo’s. If you haven’t joined in, there’s no time like the present. Jump in and join the fun.

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

This weeks prompt:

Change…

I love change. Small, incremental, manageable change. The tangible and controlled with instant predictable results. Moving the couch to the opposite side of the room. Sewing new throw pillows or chopping my hair into a bob.

But the big leaps of faith it takes to follow God when things could get so much worse, or to believe God that things could get so much better, or to trust that God makes all things right in His time, that is somehow much different from getting some new highlights or rearranging the furniture.

The big girl faith I am growing into, that is something that you have to fling yourself wide into, like a leap from the top of the jungle gym, arms stretched far, fingers grasping the bar. But the strength to hold on with calloused palms and strong grip, the swing of your body and the momentum to go forward, that  takes climbing to the top on small rungs with firm footing. It takes reaching for the next rung and going higher. It takes the joy of play, and the remembrance that when you fell, because you will,  scraped knees and the whoosh of air knocked out wasn’t enough to keep you from climbing again.

And I hope to be one that climbs into big faith and flings with abandon and holds on tight. But lately, it just seems to be more throw pillows.

  1. Ahhhh yes . . . God’s changes in our lives are the hardest, yet, for eternities perspective, the most rewarding. Someday we will understand! It’s sure a growing process!

Big thoughts for five minutes:) I’ll be thinking of throw pillows and body flinging all day and hoping I don’t settle for the change I can manage.

    Really good post.

  4. So much joy in this. It makes me want to climb those rungs and have the scrapes as proof! Love, love, love as always!!

  5. Oh mylanta….you know I love you, right?
“The big girl faith”…I love this. and your description of it…is spot on. You stuck the landing!
Striving with you to fling with abandon, and hold on tight. Even if we start with throw pillows. ; )
    So blessed by you…

  6. I like the visual of flinging yourself at God. Sometimes your big girl faith grows when the floor disappears under your feet and all you can do is fling yourself at Him to keep from falling with it.

love your imagery of climbing into big faith and flinging with abandon…throw pillows are always a good place to start…at least you are moving toward Him…blessings :)

Leave me a comment to let me know you stopped by. I always love to hear your thoughts.
