Mom-thenticity, Dirty Toilets and All: What I learned from my sister-in-law, Sarah

Sarah

My beautiful sister in law Sarah

My sister-in-law Sarah turned 30 something yesterday. I wasn’t there to celebrate with her because, you guessed it, still sick. And the last thing anyone wants at a party is a coughing, hacking, wheezy mess. After 13 years of marriage into our strange family, she has become part of my heart. She is a dear friend and confidante.  We watch our kids grow up together. We share our trials and our triumphs. She is always there to kick me in the pants or support me when I’m down, preferably not both at the same time. She is nothing like me, in a good way, and so I’ve learned a lot from her.

Today, I’m writing over at Inspired by Family Magazine about some of the things I’ve learned from her and that have challenged me to be more intentional with my service. Click the link and follow to read more. Oh, and Happy Birthday, Sarah.Inspired by Family button

Alia … it sounds like you had a hard week with that pneumonia. It takes a toll. I remember Alia … when I was going through my divorce and times were very hard. One night we opened the front door to a whole group of friends from church. It was Christmas time and those 10-15 people who entered brought with them a load of groceries, homemade soup, and bread, and 10 gifts for each of my 3 children and me. They stayed and sang Christmas carols with us and it is something I will never forget nor my children. Those are moments that leave indelible love memories forever. God bless you sister in law Sarah. Love you Alia

That’s what it’s all about. I am so glad those people were there for you. God brings people into our lives and we need to appreciate them as gifts. I have so many amazing gifts in the friends I have.

  3. Thanks for this thoughtful post. Get well soon Alia, we will keep praying for you. Missed you guys on Sarah’s birthday -wish you were well.
