A Book That Changed My Life

A Distant Grief

As a semi-crazed book lover who gets euphoric over stacks of beautifully shelved rows of word filled pages, I was immediately drawn to my friend Anne's Book Carnival. Write about a book  that changed your life. I knew immediately which book I would pick. It has truly changed my life and helped shape who I am, even down to the direction and vision for portions of this blog.  I was … [Read more...]

How to be a Good Friend

There are some things I'm pretty terrible at, like parallel parking. Lets just say, I'll keep circling the block for another space, lest I take someones bumper off. Anything related to hand eye coordination, pretty much not my thing. Or any coordination for that matter. I am spatially challenged. Finding the right sized Tupperware for leftovers always leads to enchiladas spilling over the … [Read more...]

Decluttering Part Six: First I Was a Failure, Now I am a Quitter

Facing Everest

I have a desire to be healed. To be made whole in the areas where I am not. To have the scars fade to  pale flesh like stretch marks that snake across my soul and call to remembrance the growing pains and tearing of flesh that couldn't quite keep up. The scars that only time fades but the joy of new life makes  insignificant. God has called me to  new life  I want to be healthy. Not a … [Read more...]

Decluttering Part Five: I’m Failing My Kids

I can hear the soft rustle of her feet as she pads sleepily down the hall. I see tiny hands with chipped pink polish, lifting the blankets edge and then the softest wisp of a breathe on the side of my cheek as she nestles into the curve of my arm and settles where my heart beats. She is so beautiful to me. Her soft hair flowing over the pillow. He pulls up on the bed, grasping with tiny … [Read more...]

Why I’m Called to Community and You Are Too

Too busy with work

There are so many things standing in the way of developing a community. Here are some excuses  in no particular order. 1.   I am an introvert, people are draining to me after long periods.  2.  I homeschool so my days are filled with lesson plans, constant questions,  diaper changes,  snack times, and exhaustion. Basically the definition of long periods.  3.  My house is messy … [Read more...]

80 Candles: A Lesson in Living as Light

IMG_4743

I can only imagine what they thought of me. A sixteen year old girl, just recently surrendered to the cross even though there had been many years of truth, rebellion had prevailed. And on the journey back to God and his redeeming grace, there was always the refining. So much to refine. The hot fire burning away the sins that had entangled during those years of mutiny, raging against God, the … [Read more...]

Life Rearranged or at Least a Tad Less Dusty

So anyway,  I had a very serious case of pneumonia compounded by my asthma, which left me incapacitated for a little over a month. I'm up and around now and my energy level is  steadily rising but the accumulation of things needing to be done over the past month has hit the roof, broken through, and seems to be pooling in my hallway. Apparently, things don't tend to get done unless you do … [Read more...]
